Big Meeting… Big News!

Linda and I met my cousin Richard and his girlfriend* Karen in Melbourne last week and found out some interesting news…

It was quite strange to meet up as I hadn’t seen him for a couple of years despite the fact that he has moved to within an hour of my parents house. Perhaps due to my listening skills I had rather vaguely thought he still lived in Scotland (he hasn’t for 2 years). Anyway, we got that mistake cleared up fairly early on and he informed us that he and Karen are engaged to be married!

Congratulations

Another bit of family news that somehow bypassed me!

We had a few beers to celebrate and wished them well on the next leg of their trip (Sydney, New Zealand, Gold Coast, home (?)) on which it appears the weather is following them around the globe. They were in the Melbourne area for christmas (where we had the coldest christmas day since 1951) and it was fairly chilly until they left for Sydney (where it rained sporadically). Next up was New Zealand “the land of the long white cloud”… Hopefully, they didn’t strike out completely (unlike the England cricket team) and get rain on the Gold Coast too!! Richard seemed rather downbeat about the weather situation so it might be rude to mention that we did have a hot spell for 5 days after he left…

It was nice to see a friendly face on the other side of the planet.

*Fiance – the best way to find out vital family news, such as this is, to go 13,000 miles… apparently
