Crystal Cascades and the Skyrail

We arrived near Cairns on Tuesday 14th August and stayed near the Crystal Cascades waterfalls. They are beautiful but reached by a rather ugly concrete path surrounded by stinging trees. Fish are clearly visible from 20ft up.

The skyrail is an eco-friendly cable car that runs through several kilometres of rainforest. We shared a cable car with a tour guide who had a fear of heights, but she seemed to cope by telling us about her travels around the globe. The lookouts were good enough but a handy hint is to only stop on the way back so that you don’t have to queue.

It was on the hour and a half trip that we finally decided that we had seen enough rainforest and that it was time to tackle the challenge that had been facing us down since our arrival -the drive to Ayers Rock.
