Fly Fishing
This week has seen the launch of another channel which sees us further extend our reach into online leisure activities in a blogging sense – this time, its fly fishing we’re dealing with.
This new site – www.fly-fishing.in – will showcase the great and good from the world of game fly fishing, and anyone who wants to write on this new multi-author blog is welcome to register and have a go. Its really quite easy (the easiest yet of our multi-author efforts) to submit content thanks to WordPress 2.5 and the user-friendliness this platform affords.
To this end, I will be releasing a plugin this week that shall solve a problem that we in particular have been faced with more and more of late, that of dealing with large amounts of data (which multi-author, or just multi-faceted single author blog platforms will throw up from time-to-time) – more specifically, we’re going to be building a dynamic category menu which will implant a javascript or non-javascrip drop-down menu (browser dependent) which will use the parent/child category relationship to break up categories into more manageable and useful bitesize menus based on this relationship.
There is no plugin available which does this effectively.
As a brief introduction to the idea, we’ve built a similar menu in our new look HotchSpot site – which now features more of our other channels (though not all) as part of the second phase of development before we switch over to a much more intuitive site altogether which will allow the user to select the content they like, which we’ll present. Think of it as a one-stop shop for interesting content. A bit like Digg, but without all the wearisome crap that most people submit.
For the time being, at least, you’ll have to watch this space for updates on both, as we’re working flat out to get them stable, and released, while simultaneously updating everything to 2.5 – this week will be busy! At least we can go fly fishing… well, virtually.
