Long Awaited Pictures of the Australian General Election

Slavo casts his first vote as an Aussie! Larrikin Aussies jape around the posters of Kevin ’07! Queueing to vote like you would never see in Britain!

These photos were taken on election day in December 2007 at the Timbarra Primary School Polling Station.
Notice how big the queue to vote is. This is the effect of compulsory voting. Our hosts told us that a friend of theirs was fined in the previous general election for not turning up to participate or sending a postal vote. Could a similar system work in Britain? Certainly, there should be a minimum number of votes needed before a party can claim victory.

  1. Fantastic to see Slavo cast his vote, as we were there to share his Citizenship Ceremony just before last Christmas. Happy voting to all Australians from us in Yorkshire! And a happy Christmas and peaceful New Year.
