Congratulations go to Barack Obama on being the first black president of the United States of America. 2008 will now go down in history as the year when America at last overcame the ghosts of its past. Despite being the champion of the free world, the USA has been frogleapt in the past by far more progressive third world countries such as India, Pakistan and South Africa – who have all elected female or black leaders. At 11pm Eastern Time on Tuesday 4th November, Barack Obama was declared the outright winner with three states still to declare. He had won by a much larger margin than George Bush ever achieved. It seems that the American people were really ready for a change.

I have heard one person say that its all because of Tupac. He did mention that it was about time America had a black president. Shame he wasn’t around to see it – apparently Jesse Jackson was, and he had a tear in his eye. Obama finished his speech with “God Bless the United States of America” – so another shot for all of you playing the US election drinking game.

Congratulations to all those involved in the campaign. Hopefully the USA will stop invading everyone now. Well done President Obama.
