Pocket Projectors – Enhance Your Hand-Held Video Player!
With iPods, mobile phones and PDAs (plus other hand-held devices) now on the scene that can hold high quality, full-length video, the latest must-have gadget for any wannabe nerd or gadget freak is surely the latest device to hit the scene: The Pocket Projector. There are a few of these devices hitting the marketplace right now (some ready in time for Christmas) that will enable you to get more than a microscopic view! Here I’ll tell you about two of the better ones.
I’ll also try to track down the best places to buy (or pre-order) these gadget-fiends-friends.
3M – MPro 110 Micro Projector
3M kicked things off with their MPro 110 Mini Projector which can cast an image of up to 11 inches (according to Techradar) and fits literally in the palm of your hand. While 11 inches isn’t a massive picture, its certainly bigger than the couple you’ll get from the screen of an iPod Classic or similar.
This is a very small piece of kit, so will fit comfortably into a pocket or bag – enabling you to project your mini videos onto a wall, piece of paper, or even someone’s back (I’m thinking crowded tube train rides could be much more fun in future!).

But this projector has little on the next one we discovered – which projects a picture of up to 50 inches wide!
Aiptek V10 Pocket Cinema
We all know a little about big screen TVs and prjectors and the word little shouldn’t be used in the same sentence once, let alone twice!
What you’re looking for in a projector is to project a large image – and the Aiptek V10 Pocket Cinema really does chuck out a huge image – which can stretch up to 50 inches wide (not diagonal, I did say wide!).
Slightly bigger than the 3M machine – and I do mean slightly – it measures 5.5 x 12.5 cms (about 2 and a quarter inches by 5 inches for those of you in imperial measures).

Don’t worry about your wobbly shaky hand either, or even about getting out of your seat – this Pocket Cinema comes with a mini tripod (sweet) and remote control (top marks for pocket laziness).
Inputting videos is possible via USB and SD card and the Aiptek V10 even has its own little set of speakers so you don’t have to huddle round your iPod headphones to listen to your movie.
All you need is a clean white surface to project onto, and you can be watching videos with your friends, and not like some lonely loner as before on your hand-held devices!
Imagine, next time you’re delayed at an airport how many friends you could win – but would that be a breach of copyright (public display)??? As long as you don’t use one in prison or on an oil rig, I would assume you’d be ok – there’s no specific mention of airports anywhere at the start of movies… but don’t take my word for it!
These gadgets are cool.
