Three Paragraphs Which Will Help You Rule Digg, Stumbleupon and Slashdot!

After 4 years in this game, it seems we’ve finally started doing some things right. We’ve got a formula for this web traffic thing that is working at attracting the traffic and keeping it coming back for more within our two networks. While I can’t guarantee a good old digg-ing, slashdot-ting or stumblepon-ing, what we’ve learned about today’s web user does show conclusively that they love three things: (celebrity) videos; (celebrity) pictures and writing no more than three short paragraphs (about celebrities).

How we came to this startling conclusion is the result of endless trial and error that ended in millions of pageviews, however, there’s nothing worse than a seemingly helpful blog post about attracting much needed traffic which actually tells us zero, so I’m going to explain what those three paragraphs should consist of: mention a celebrity in some way; be funny (in fact, try not to be serious at all); be controversial.

Lastly but not least, you should allow your attention deficient web visitors these chances: to post comments without registering; to ‘thumbs up’ or ‘thumbs down’ anything and everything at the click of a button; and most importantly of all – don’t poke advertisements in their faces – its not 1998, ffs.

  1. Ya, it seems like Celebrities and gossip are the only things people want to hear about anymore…

Really, to own the Social Sites, you need to create a buzz worthy topic, or its pointless
