Will Blogging Get You a Job?

How very relevant.

I found this article about whether blogging will get you a job while I was doing a virtual cruise this lunchtime.

Will blogging get anyone a job? Only, I would assume, if they write explicitly about how they are

  • “forward thinking”;
  • “a real people person”;
  • “a dynamic individual”;
  • a person who “loves to work as part of a team”;
  • etc

Unless, of course, a prospective employer follows a person’s blog over a period of time, and considers them to be a valuable asset to their business. However, back in the real world, these decisions are almost exclusively the domain of the recruitment consultant or the human resource manager. These people, unfortunately, are less likely to appreciate the relative merits of one person over another unless they are laid down most tacitly – i.e. in a C.V.
