Your Story ReBoot

What’s Your Story?

A question we asked back in March 2007 when we set up the domain your-story.org. Its purpose? To allow people to tell their stories online – both fiction and non-fiction (biographical) stories. We set up the site, got a lot of promotion behind it, got a lot of stories submitted by famous professional authors as well as amateur authors and generally the idea seemed good.

So what went wrong, then?

As with many web 2.0 ventures, the problem lay in the fact that most of the content was user-generated. No real problem there with regards how many people are vain enough to think their writing worthy of publication, no, that bit was easy! The problem was with a total lack of quality in the stories people were submitting. Genuinely, 95% of the submissions were worse than dreadful. We’d set ourselves up for a fall by saying we were “not exclusive” and would “publish any submission” – what we had meant was we would not edit works, and wouldn’t censor things.

What we got was a stack of ill conceived, badly written novellas riddled with spelling and grammatical errors.

So things went rather stagnant over at Your-Story.org. However, we had generated a lot of inbound links, as well as a DMOZ listing and other SEO goodies along the (admittedly short) way. So much was done, in fact, that the domain had achieved a Google PageRank of 5 within 8 months. We didn’t want to just drop the domain.

So we put it into hibernation.

And now its back!

Utilising what’s left of the current PageRank and backlinks, Your-Story.org has reformed, Phoenix-like, and emerged from the flames of defeat to once again proudly stalk the furtile plains of Web 2.0. Only this time, we’re allowed to delete inadequate submissions, and we’re not talking fiction / none fictions – its press and news releases.

We’ve also decided to remove all advertising forever. This website is, and shall remain, completely free. so here is a brief list of what you can do on the new look Your-Story.org website:

  • Submit Press Releases for free;
  • Website based on WordPress, so users can be up-and-running in under 2 minutes;
  • Use your own or hotlinked images (including thumbnails and feature images);
  • Become featured on the homepage;
  • Select up to three relevant categories;
  • Suggest your own tags;
  • Include a few links with proper anchor text (with NO cloaking; no-follow or anything like that)
  • Totally ad free – no adsense, no banners EVER!

We’re sure you’ll appreciate the free pres releases, which will rank well in search and pass PageRank along the line – ultimately helping you in your latest web projects. We won’t be profiting financially from this website AT ALL so any backlinks, props, thank-yous or whatever you give us can be your thanks.
